Events - Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Quiet Day?

A Quiet Day is an ideal way of redressing the balance in our busy lives, as there is specific space in the morning and afternoon where we can be silent and still and allow God to speak to us through his word, his creation and his still small voice.

What happens on a Quiet Day?

No one Quiet Day is the same, but most follow a similar format. There are three or four led sessions spaced throughout the day, each followed by a time of quiet reflection. The speaker for the day will spend the led sessions discussing elements of the theme for the day, and will usually draw it all together at the end. The times of quiet reflection are spent individually, and you are free to use it however you wish, as long as it is silently. Some pray, some read the Bible, some reflect on the theme of the day, some write – and some even have a nap! Whatever you feel God is telling you to do; there are no restrictions here.

What is the difference between a Quiet Day and a Teaching Day?

Teaching days offer the opportunity to have longer teaching times followed by an opportunity to question the speaker. Afterwards you break into small groups. There is much less time, or sometimes no time, for quiet reflection on a Teaching Day.

How many Quiet Days and Teaching Days are there per year?

On average, BRF puts on 20 Quiet Days and Teaching Days each year. If an event does not have enough people booked on, we may have to cancel it. You will always be told in advance if this were to happen.

What if I cannot attend an event I have booked on to?

Please let us know as soon as you can if you will not be able to attend an event you have booked on to. If it is less than one month in advance of the day, we will be unable to refund your ticket price.

How quickly should I book on to an event I want to go to?

As soon as you can! Many of our events are popular and will book up quickly. Most venues give us a maximum number for attendance and we have to strictly adhere to these numbers, so once the day is booked up, that is it. We do offer the chance to be on a waiting list for a day, so that should someone cancel, we can offer that place to the next person on the list.

Can’t I just turn up at the venue on the day and pay then?

No; we need to have all people attending booked in advance so that catering costs can be covered and so the venue knows exactly how many people will be attending, for safety reasons.

Does my Quiet Day or Teaching Day include lunch and refreshments?

Most Quiet Days and Teaching Days include lunch and refreshments in the price of the ticket, unless otherwise stated. On days when lunch is not provided, you will still be provided with tea, coffee and cold drinks.

Will a lunch be provided even if I have special dietary requirements?

We strive to make sure that everyone can be catered for, but it ultimately depends on the venue or the caterers themselves as to whether they can provide a meal suitable to your diet. If you let us know your requirements when booking your place on a day, we can find out if food can be provided. If it cannot, we will offer you a reduced ticket rate and request that you bring your own lunch.

Several of us are planning on attending a Quiet Day. Is there a special deal on prices for groups?

Yes; when you buy four places to a day, you get the fifth free. This applies on all Quiet Days and Teaching Days.

Can you guarantee that the speakers and themes advertised in your programme will not change?

No; under certain circumstances it becomes necessary to change them. The theme will usually only change if the speaker changes. We cannot account for illness or other special circumstances which may affect the speaker’s ability to host an event for BRF; on such an occasion, we will offer you the chance to attend the same event with a new speaker, or the chance to be refunded in full.
