Seeking God's Face

Learning to Walk with God in Prayer
Beryl Adamsbaum
'I trust this little book will cause a yearning for God to rise up within you, a hunger and thirst for him that can only be assuaged as you come to him, feed on his Word, and seek his face in prayer.'

Writer, Bible study leader, teacher and speaker Beryl Adamsbaum helps us get in stride with God in the one essential, most powerful and dynamic relationship - prayer. In 14 short chapters, she encourages us to be grounded in scripture, to grow in confidence as we approach and communicate with God, to find sustenance for the times when God seems silent, and to walk with him into a deeper life of prayer.

From: The War Cry 20 November 2004
PRAYER is one of the most essential parts of the Christian life but also can seem the most difficult. The author believes that overcoming a lack of confidence and recognising our self-imposed hurdles are the first steps to a deeper faith and understanding. She suggests how to learn to walk with God in prayer through the Bible. From: Grace Magazine, January 2006 We may be tempted to think that another book on prayer is unnecessary. What makes this one any different from the others? In many ways Beryl Adamsbaum reiterates what we may have heard and read before on the practice of prayer. But it is good to be reminded of these things, especially that prayer is not a technique. The author emphasises that prayer should be based on a yearning after God. What makes this book refreshingly different for me is that the author deals honestly with the more difficult issues surrounding prayer, for example when our heart cries out to God who is apparently silent; when we feel abandoned by him. This is a very helpful little book, brought down-to-earth with some of Beryl's personal experiences. The chapter are short and easy to read. It is a real encouragement to pray and delight ourselves in our God. Reviewed by Maureen Gardner
