Giving it upWednesday 17 March 2010, 9:45am-4pm at Bishop Woodford House, Ely, CambridgeshireSpeaker/leader: Maggi DawnWe usually associate Lent with giving something up - chocolate, wine, coffee or some such regular treat. But some of the earliest Christian writers suggested that what we need to give up, more than anything, is not something material, but our skewed and limited ideas about who God is. If we allow our inherited ideas to be unpicked and challenged, we will have a chance of getting a clearer picture. This quiet day will follow some Bible characters who discovered that their image of God was much too small and dull, once they had had a real encounter. Maggi Dawn is Chaplain and Fellow of Robinson College, University of Cambridge, and author of a number of books, including Giving it up (BRF, 2009) and Beginnings and Endings (BRF, 2007). Price: £25
